Custom Programming Options at MIS

When first seeing a demonstration of PAX-it software, most clients react with “This is just what I need.”  We are thrilled to hear these responses from our customers, and we hope to continue providing just what people are looking for to help with their imaging applications.

Every once in a while, we hear “PAX-it is 95% of what I need. If only it could do…”, followed by a particular analysis, workflow, or feature that is lacking in any off-the-shelf software package. We are also happy to hear these remarks, as it helps us to understand what the market is looking for. If the need is great for a customer’s specific requirement, they may opt to have us program PAX-it in order to create the tools necessary to hit the goal.

Custom programming contracts are common at MIS, because it is part of the nature of our business. We are a small enough company to be able to respond to customer needs, and large enough to have the resources in house to accomplish the tasks as presented. This allows us to work with clients to build software according to their specifications.

The custom programming process proceeds down a path with that specification as the primary focus:

  • Interview with customer to determine the need
  • Develop a detailed specification to outline the steps required in the new software
  • Flesh out the specification to include details of user interface, data handling, etc
  • Estimate the resources required for completion of the project, including man-hours, programming tools, testing, and fixes
  • Quote the project as a Statement of Work, and review the specification with the customer for clarification and approval
  • Create the new software according to the detailed and approved spec
  • Review the software with the customer upon delivery

By creating the detailed specification as a statement of work, there are no surprises upon delivery. The customer knows what to expect, and the programming personnel know when they have reached the goal.

Some custom work that has been recently performed for PAX-it customers :

  • Scripted image capture for defect inspection on complex semiconductors
  • Image analysis of non-standard key edges for duplication machines
  • Creation of a user interface for an OEM imaging product
  • Development of a semi-automated routine for analysis of metal microstructures

Custom requests do not need to be complex, drawn-out productions. Many features that are seen in PAX-it’s new versions are the result of customer feedback that are tweaks to existing features, or are logical extensions of what we already do well. We strive to move PAX-it forward to serve our clients, and hope that every new release of PAX-it makes your lab’s imaging tools more complete. But if you cannot find the specific routine or analysis or feature that you need to get your work done properly, give us a call about some custom work that YOU can help design.
