How to Create Custom Measurements in PAX-it

PAX-it and PAXcam products are designed to be flexible, so that we can meet the needs of a variety of markets. In some cases we have tools designed specifically for a market segment that requires a certain calculation—for example “percent penetration” measurements that are calculated from welding cross sections automatically from two other specific measurements.  In other cases we allow the user to create their own custom measurements based on calculations. One method for custom calculations is to create an Excel report template that handles data for you by plugging in PAX-it measurement data into a formula that you create.  But PAX-it also has tools to create your own formulas right within the PAX-it interface, for display in the PAX-it Measurement Totals window.

These data formulas may be done in two ways: via ‘custom columns’, or via ‘custom calculations’.  A custom column is created from collected data and displayed as a column in the Measurement Totals grid.  It is a formula that is generally applied to data in the totals.  For example, a custom column might be created to calculate the Diameter of circles by taking the displayed Radius data and multiplying it by 2.

Custom calculations are a bit different than custom columns, as they relate to specific collected data, and are displayed as a row of data in a new Measurement Totals tab. For example, a “Percent of whole” data point may be calculated by dividing a “Thickness of wall” line measurement by a “Depth of Crack” line measurement, and then multiplying by 100.
