PAXcam and PAX-it CONNECT Applications

A key to the success of PAXcam and PAX-it products is our focus on using images for communication of ideas. PAX-it images can be shared via networked collections, and via reports, presentations, email, and ftp sites on the web.

Communication in today’s world is happening at an ever-increasing pace, and live sharing of news and information has become much more prevalent.  Did you know that live sharing of PAXcam and PAX-it views is possible, via PAXcam CONNECT and PAX-it CONNECT ?

PAXcam CONNECT takes the live preview from your PAXcam—whether it is showing a microscopic view, or a view from a macro-stand or tripod-mounted PAXcam—and streams it live over your network to another location. Actually to potentially more than one location at a time. And actually to more than just your local network—internet-connected sessions are also available.

PAX-it CONNECT is similar, but with the PAX-it workspace being shared with other users, so that browsing to project folders, displaying, annotating, measuring – any PAX-it operations – can all be seen in real time by another user.

There are advantages to CONNECT versus desktop sharing applications such as GoToMeeting or Webex. For example, if you are sharing with someone on your local network, CONNECT uses your LAN connection only. There is no need to send your data or images to a third-party server on the internet in order for someone else to see them. Everything remains securely behind your firewall in a direct LAN connection.  This also speeds up the transmission, since there is no ‘middle-man’ server that is transferring the data; the CONNECT stream is picked up directly by the recipient’s computer, whether on a LAN or via the internet.

PAXcam CONNECT is optimized to reduce the lag time between sending and receiving, so that truly real time consultation may be accomplished. This is especially important for those applications where samples are moved about, or magnification is changed frequently, so that the receiver can keep up with the view that is being discussed.

So how might CONNECT work for you? Consider these applications to see if you can come up with a meaningful justification.

Application 1: Clean Room

The microscope in a wafer production lab or pharmaceutical or biological clean room is in a restricted area that only certain people have access to, or where visitors must go through a gowning procedure to enter.  If there is something on the microscope that needs to be shared with someone outside the clean room, then CONNECT is the perfect solution. The high-res live camera view can be seen while on the other side of the wall—whether down the hall, in a different building, or  around the world.

Application 2: Cytology

A pathologist must view cells removed during an endoscopic procedure, and is called to the surgical area for the consultation.  Unfortunately, he or she must wait while the surgeon prepares the case and operates the endoscope to get into position for the biopsy.  If the pathology department had PAXcam CoNNECT on a cart, a technician could spend the time waiting for the sample, and then prepare the slide to show “live” to the pathologist who is back at their desk being productive.

Application 3: Quality Control

If a production line is down in a manufacturing facility due to a quality control issue, it must be resolved quickly in order to get manufacturing back on line. If there is a question about a failed part that must be resolved by a special team or individual, those colleagues may be contacted immediately via CONNECT, to show them the issues and to get their recommendation.  No need for overnight shipments of parts, or for flying experts in from headquarters for a look through the microscope—simply use CONNECT to discuss the case and get the answers you need much quicker and cost-effectively.
